Assassin's Creed Rogue on the PlayStation 3 is one of the most exciting installments in the AC Universe. The blend of history and the way the story line changes is an exciting and welcome twist on what has already become one of the most storied franchises of our generation. The game takes place in the mid to late 1750's during the Seven Year's War that rocked most of Europe to its core. During Ubisoft's version of the war you will head all over North America. Your travels will take you to New York, Quebec, the frozen tundra of the North Atlantic, and even the Appalachian River Valley.
Super Gamer Dude
In 2007 the original Assassin's Creed title launched on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. It was almost an instant hit for Ubisoft Montreal. Now seven years later we are looking at our eighth game, this one on the next gen of consoles, as well as a Hollywood blockbuster adaptation starring A-lister Michael Fassbender. With so much going on in the world that Ubisoft has meticulously crafted, it is worth digging in to what could be the most exciting installment yet: Assassin's Creed Rogue.
Perhaps Ubisoft understands that even the best made recipe will grow stale after awhile. Assasin's Creed: Rogue intends to change up the flavor of what we are used to without ever sacrificing the comfort of the meal. In Rogue you will play as Shay Patrick Cormac, a young recruit of the Brotherhood of Assassins. Doesn't sound so intriguing, right? Well, the problem is that Cormac quickly grows to dislike the methods and behaviors of his Assassin brotherhood--right as he joins their ranks. When he is finally turned on by his own brothers he turns to the Templar Order where he takes up his robes as a hunter of Assassins. It is this job that allows you, as Cormac, to shake the very foundation of the Assassin's Brotherhood and, perhaps, change the course of history forever.

Your travels will take you to New York, Quebec, the frozen tundra of the North Atlantic, and even the Appalachian River Valley. As you can see, with this wide array of traversable territory you are bound to see something quite majestic. The team of developers at Ubisoft have gone above the call in order to make sure that their world looks vibrant and fully realized and it shows. The team has paid meticulous attention to detail while their new engine, AnvilNext, has been leaned upon to generate the sort of playing ground that old school gamers perhaps never thought was possible.
While the crux of the story is different there are many shared aspects that Rogue will carry on from its predecessors. Naval exploration has returned from the Black Flag installment only this time it will be in the form of Shay's little ship, Morrigan. You will primarily find yourself hauling up small rivers and trying to outrun bigger enemies. When you DO have to engage in naval warfare you will have a host of new weapons at your disposal including ignitable oil slicks, the ability to board ships, and the Puckle Gun. Hand to hand combat is largely similar to that of the older titles with the most interesting addition being that of the air rifle. The air rifle is one of the most reliable long distance weapons in the games as it allows you to sight up an enemy and silently take them out. Expect to see the air rifle become one of the most popular weapons in the game due to its customizability that allows it to be turned into a pseudo grenade launcher.
While Assassin's Creed Rogue may be forgotten in the excitement over the new title, Unity, fans will likely quickly fall in love when they get their hands on the title. While Rogue does not have the customizable options that Unity has, it feels and looks like a highly polished title that will draw you in and keep you playing for hours at a time. Historical adventuring is fascinating and Ubisoft has developed a sandbox that is worth your utmost attention. The persistent detail, throughout the maps, is astounding and the ability to find new areas of play keeps you constantly on the look out. Use your ship to find new areas of the map that you thought were otherwise inaccessible and keep an eye on all of your abilities, because each one will come in handy at some point.
