Battleborn on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC is primarily a first-person shooter and was developed by the teams behind the critically acclaimed role-playing-shooter known as Borderlands 2. The game combines stunning visuals in a world of frenetic first-person shooting, with Gearbox’s industry-leading co-operative combat, and an expansive collection of diverse heroes come to the forefront.

Battleborn is set in the distant future of an imaginative science-fantasy universe where players experience both a narrative-driven co-operative campaign, as well as competitive multiplayer online matches. The game contains 25 playable heroes and no two are the same. Every hero has their own personality and comes equipped with their own unique weapons and powers to aid the user.

Battleborn takes place in the far, far future where a tremendous band of badass heroes fight to protect the universe's very last star from a mysterious evil. To defend it, you'll need to utilize every type of character and weapon at your disposal, from cyborg hawkmen to samurai vampires to mini-gun wielding man-mountains. Players dispose of the enemies by slash and parry, run and gun, cast and dash, or simply obliterate foes whilst growing your personal team of heroes. You first choose your hero and then decide if you plan to fight alone or co-operatively alongside friends in story missions, or battle against them in fast-paced competitive multiplayer matches.

The gameplay depicted in Battlborn reminds me of a futuristic chaotic cartoonlike environment where waves of attacks are thrown at the player, the level designs is artistic to a degree and shown in stunning detail. The arrangement of unlockable weapons and characters makes a nice twist and really gives the player a reason as to why to proceed through the missions. The weapons and magical arsenal that aids the player throughout is really diverse, almost taking elements from traditional final fantasy elements coupled with chaotic first person shooter, so an array of weapons and magical items are constant and add to the overall appeal of the game, who doesn’t like more weapons?

Most of the action is going to be found online and this is where players will spend most of their hard earned pennies, the added appeal with the online mode is the fact that you can take out the AI aspect of the game and so forth and battle against real players, which unlike single player games in general, often having a very predictable way of moving throughout the game. So let’s dive in to the multiplayer modes.

Battleborn's team-based competitive multiplayer action can be experienced by up to 10 players online in 5v5 matches where competing teams compete, there are three distinct multiplayer modes for the taking.

Incursion Mode

The incursion mode allows teams of heroes to defend their base from the waves of AI-controlled minions while working together alongside their own minions to destroy their opponent's base.

Capture Mode

The Capture Mode allows teams of heroes to face off in a fast-paced death match and must capture and hold objectives found within the map to win.

Meltdown Mode

In Meltdown Mode, teams of heroes must guide their minions as they march to their death at the center of the map. Points are scored for every minion who throws themselves into the incinerator, and the team with the most points wins.
