If you were a huge fan of the series, then it might be interesting to note that a lot of the most led-up-to battles in the series are recreated here, in one of the many modes of play that are available in this game. That being said, once youÂ’ve played through the most interesting battles, itÂ’s likely that youÂ’re not going to want to participate too much in any of the other types of play, even the 16-player World Tournament mode. ThatÂ’s because the fighting mechanics that were used for the game just arenÂ’t that good.

One of the most important things about a gameÂ’s system of fighting mechanics is that it be playable. The inclusion of an extremely complicated system that allows characters to perform attacks, a host of special moves, unique moves for their character, grabs involving the air, normal grabs, blocks, and other moves gives players an enormous arsenal to participate in fighting. This wouldnÂ’t be such a big deal, but it makes it nearly impossible to pull off a lot of the most powerful moves in the game. Because switching from moving to fighting is not instantaneous, it is very easy for a player to stay almost continually on the offensive and win. ThatÂ’s not the fighting mechanic from the series, and itÂ’s not a fighting mechanic that is very fun to play here.

Playing against the AI does allow an opportunity to pull off a few more of these moves, but the experience is generally not as satisfying as playing against a person. In addition, the number of characters that are available is enormous, but some of them are extremely similar in appearance and fighting style. The worlds are also true to the series, appearing nearly as desolate and bleak as they did on the cartoon. While itÂ’s accurate, it isnÂ’t very visually appealing.

Fighting offline has rewards, though, especially for devoted fans of the series. There are a bunch of characters that can be unlocked, as well as pictures of the characters from the show. For hardcore fans, playing through the single-player portion will provide lots of things to unlock, but it will take a devotee of the universe to care about a lot of the items that are acquired by play.

What Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2 comes down to is an experience that had an opportunity to shine for the unique style of combat that the Dragon Ball Z universe offers. By making button-mashing a distinctly usable tactic that can win battles against real players, there is no opportunity for the tactical application of force that the series showed so well. Because of that, this game is probably one that can be skipped.
