Dragon Ball: XenoVerse is a fighting role-playing video game which was developed by Dimps and published by Bandai Namco Games. The game is part of the Dragon Ball Series and was released on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and finally the PC. This is the first Dragon Ball release to be announced on the next generation series of consoles.

Storyline

The story in question focuses on two malicious villains named Towa and Mira who are manipulating history and Time Patrol Trunks. Trunks asks Shenron to summon a hero who can help him restore and fix the timeline. Just like the previous releases, the story borrows elements from the previous releases and also the hero is who is sent is played by the player.

Gameplay

The main area of the game is called "Toki Toki City" and you simply select the story missions or side missions, it is also where you meet your trainer. When you are online it's populated with other online player characters that you can communicate with, decide to team up with, or decide to challenge in battle. When the player is playing offline, a random number of characters are generated. The game can be considered open world as a large proportion of your time will be spent in an open area, often battling other characters in mid-air combat. Each player is given a health gauge and this gauge stays green and slowly decreases when damage is received, when critical the gauge will be at its lowest point and flashing portraying potential elimination.

You also have various attacks and items which can be carried upon your person and an option to customize the character as a whole, perhaps change the skill set, boost attributes, change battle items, equipment, character customization and various other stuff. The character customization for example allows you to change all physical attributes associated with a character, for example, change the hair, eyes, height, nose, mouth ears, or even the outfit the character is wearing. Other options include voice and an option to change the player character name. There are five available playable races: Saiyans, Namekians, Earthlings, Majins and Frieza's race; all of which have race specific advantages, skill sets and bonuses.

Story Mode.

During the story mode your customized character goes through every important storyline found within the Dragon Ball: XenoVerse universe, and upon completion of each mission you will have access to numerous characters which can be unlocked. In total 43 characters can be unlocked from playing the story mode and these include Krillin, Piccolo, Yamcha to name a few. There are also numerous secret characters which can be unlocked in the story mode, and these require the player completing Parallel Quests, some need Time Shards, others need help from the seven Dragonballs. Some of the secret characters include Vegito Goku, Bardock, Broly, Gogeta, Super 17, Omega, to name a few.

Downloadable Content. (DLC)

Dragon Ball: XenoVerse features an array of downloadable content which can be accessed for a small fee, at the current time of writing this there are 4 know packs as well as a season pass and time travel edition which can be purchased.

Season Pass

The season pass will probably appeal to most people as this includes all the DLC packs, all the playable characters can be obtained, all skills and costumes, accessories, episodes, master quests found within all the DLC packs can be obtained with this season pass.

Time Travel Edition

This edition is simply all of the above as well as the original game, so effectively you can think of the Time Travel edition as containing all the above found in the Season Pass as well as the original game.

GT Pack 1

DLC GT Pack 1 contains 3 Playable characters Goku, Pan, Trunks and contains all the episodes and quests - masters and master’s quests along with skills, costumes and accessories. This allows you to go deeper into the actual story of Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT through the game alone or with other players travelling through the Toki Toki City.

GT Pack 2

GT Pack 2 contains 4 playable characters Eis Shenron, Nuova Shenron, Towa and Miraas along with Episodes and Parallel Quests, master’s quests, skills, costumes and accessories. Like above you will be able to visit Toki Toki City with a story driven theme and interact with other players online or via a solo experience.

F Pack

This pack gives you 3 new characters: Golden Frieza, SSGSS Vegeta and SSGSS Goku. The first character ever created by Akira Toriyama is also included in this pack: Jaco. The game also includes 5 Parallel Quests, 8 masters Quests, 14 moves, 1 accessory, 7-Z-souls, and finally the Turtle Hermit costume.

Movie Custom Pack

Exclusive content coming from the new Dragon Ball Z movie Dragon Ball Z Resurrection F, the following costumes will also be available:

(Costume) Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Goku's costume.
(Costume) Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Vegeta's costume.
(Wig) Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Goku's wig.

Conclusion.

To summarize, Dragon Ball: XenoVerse is a worthy purchase for those looking for combat action, the online play will appeal to most and is really where the game starts to shine, for those interested in this type of genre it is worth the price.
