The Legend of Zelda: TriForce Heroes for the Nintendo 3DS handheld console is an action-adventure video game developed by Nintendo Entertainment Planning & Development and Grezzo. This latest release is part of the latest installment from Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda series, this game was released in October 23rd 2015.

Storyline

The game is set in strange kingdom known as Hytopia, a kingdom in peril, where the citizens are obsessed with their fashion status. Princess Styla once held great power over the Hytopia Kingdom, until she receives a gift, this gift was actually a evil fashion curse which came from a witch that forces Styla to wear an ugly black jumpsuit, a onezee if you like. King Tuft, who is Princess Styla's father, is devastated over the curse and needs some superheroes to save her from it. However King Tuft truly believes that the true superhero is the one who fulfills a prophecy well known in the Hytopia Kingdom, this tells the story of three heroes uniting to form a totem, and that hero ends up being Link.

It can be considered dangerous to want to venture out into the Drablands, a world which is packed with numerous enemies and unexpected obstacles which might hinder you moving forward. You do however have the luxury of having the combined power of three heroic Links to aid you in your quest. The key element in The Legend of Zelda: TriForce Heroes is cooperation and working as a team. All the three Links share the same heart gauge, so it pays to help each other out, in fact the core premises of the game is modelled on teamwork. How you work together to clear each area requires logical thinking and working as a team, communication with other team members.

Outfits.

TriForce Heroes has a plethora of outfits which can be obtained and used to your advantage, wearing the right clothes in the Drablands will not lead to ultimate success, however it does have its distinctive advantages, dressing for the right occasion. To obtain these outfits you will need to collect the right materials along the way (and a few Rupees) before Madame Couture can design your outfit. Incidentally, you can see which materials you might need by taking a look in the Madame's clothing catalog. The other interesting element is that, if you fail to obtain your materials needed to give to Madame Couture, you can always replay the level, or you might want to track down a local salesman who can offer assistance.

The outfits each carry their own properties, powers if you like, for instance, the Kikiri Clothes enable the Link to fire three arrows instead of one, this catalog is expanding more as more as the game progresses, in effect unleashing a multitude of clothes and outfits all having unique powers, traits to aid the Link.

Levels.

TriForce Heroes has 32 levels which are carefully crafted to maximize teamwork for the majority of the time, the game can be seen as a hack and slash, up close and personal, the added risk factor being, this time your shield is nowhere to be seen, it has been replaced by a Totem System. So timing is key if you want to survive in such a world as this, boss fights are thick and fast and require much teamwork to overcome. The developers have done a very good job of being able to provide teamwork that actually works and seems plausible, which actually makes the game so much better to play, in fact I don’t think it would work in any other way.

Items

During your quest to become a superhero and save the day, within the dungeons you will often come across various items which can be picked up, on some occasions all three Links will have the same item. These items should be used strategically for the majority of the time, these items are the key to actually solving the mysteries themselves. Some of the items in question, Water Rods, these are used to summon pillars of water, Fire Gloves, enables the link to throw fireballs and melt ice, Gust Jars, blows away enemies with puffs of smoke.

Online Compatibility.

There are various modes of online gameplay associated with The Legend of Zelda: TriForce Heroes, these include three modes of play. You have the option to play Local Wireless, this allows you to connect with two other players. Download Play allows a similar experience where only one game is needed for all 3 players to participate in combat. Finally, we have Online Play which allows you to go online via Wi-Fi, team up with other friends, and effectively play all over the world. In a similar setting.

Overall, The Legend of Zelda: TriForce Heroes for the Nintendo 3DS has enabled gamers to really feel and participate in an environment which relies largely on strategic thought, team work if you like, a different approach to the usual hack, slash title.
