A combination of two well-loved geek creations, Lego and Star Wars, the game is definitely an eye catching experience. Its characters, borrowed from the Star Wars movie trilogy, are depicted as Lego pieces. The game concentrates on the on the events that took place in the Star Wars trilogy: A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

Using a third person view, the game is easy and direct. Its missions follow the original movie plot. The player begins with the destruction of the Death Star, training with Yoda and fighting Darth Vader. It continues towards the transfer to the New Death Star where the player successfully escapes. There are still lots of interesting missions. They range from easy to difficult. An example would be saving the Rebel base on Hoth from the AT-AT walkers and heading a troop against enemies who want to control the Imperial shield generators. All missions are straightforward, although there are a lot of obstacles before a mission is accomplished.

A player may choose to invite a friend and play in a cooperative game. In this mode one can gain access to different secured contents of the game. It is a fun-filled game minus the actual violence other action games offer; Lego characters aren’t really suited for these violent scenes, anyway. Studs where treasures in the earlier versions of the game, similarly, they are still needed in this version, and these studs are useful in unlocking game contents. There are also Minikits in this version and they allow players to access game vehicles.

The whole game is backed up with a high quality cinematic sound effects and sound tracks. It gives the feel of Star Wars movie in a game. Although there are no dialogues, the game is still catchy as it leaves the player with the task of imagining what the character might be talking about. Its animation and cut scenes are expertly done. Unfortunately, the limited camera controls make the game flat and nondescript, a minor setback for a true Star Wars fan.

This family friendly action game gives its player loads of fun from start to finish. Younger and older players alike who are not looking for a deep plot or frantic action will find Star Wars II challenging and exciting.
