Marvel Super Hero Squad The Infinity Gauntlet is a sequel to the original Marvel Super Hero Squad video game. Infinity Gauntlet was originally released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2011, and it has since brought lots of players into the super deformed, child friendly and extremely cute world of some of Marvel's most classic heroes and villains.

What's The Game About

Infinity Gauntlet is a much simpler version of the race for the heroes of the Marvel Universe to get their hands on the Infinity Gems before the villains can do so. The premise of this simpler game is that Hulk and Iron Man are off world shopping for a pair of boots as a present to Thor. This simple errand gets the heroes mixed up with Thanos, the last Titan, who acquires the Infinity Gauntlet. If the Gauntlet is fitted with the Infinity Gems, then it grants the wearer power over the forces of the cosmos. The Marvel Super Hero Squad, featuring characters like Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Captain America, Nova and others have to travel to various worlds and fight villains ranging from the Super Skrull to Nightmare in order to get the gems back. However, in the end, Thanos manages to acquire them. This leads the heroes to a winner take all fight for the fate not just of the world, but for the entire universe.

Gameplay

Marvel Super Hero Squad is a fairly simple game with some pretty basic controls. That said though, every hero has his or her own signature moves and powers that make them that much more fun to control. Additionally, players have four separate modes to play in; Story Mode, Challenge Mode and Freeplay Mode. Story Mode allows players to follow the game's actual story with a select number of heroes at every stage. Challenge Mode allows for four player co-op, giving everyone the chance to get in on some of the meta human action. Freeplay Mode allows players to replay any level they've already been through with any hero or villain, providing that extra bit of mix and match challenge.

Graphics and 3D Gameplay

The Marvel Super Hero Squad already uses an ultra deformed style of art to make the characters smaller and cuter, and this lends itself well to the relatively simple, cartoony graphics that make up the game. The 3D mechanic is far from necessary, but when it comes to immersing players in the world, particularly a world as rich as the one created by Marvel Comics, it can make the characters and the fight scenes positively leap off the screen. Whether it's the Hulk going toe to toe with the Super Skrull, or teams of heroes combatting the Dark Surfer, there's so much opportunity for the 3D mechanic to come into play that without it the game really is lessened. As with the comic books, or the television show that inspired the game, the Super Hero Squad needs to really pop for players to get the most.
