The moment you start playing the game, you will take on the character of Rallen, the space cadet who has the power to lead and control spectrobes or space monsters. Aside from extensive conversations with boring characters, you can also expect to go through barren planets with nothing interesting to see or find along the way. Your missions will revolve around saving kidnapped comrades and preventing massive space destruction while trying to capture Mr. Big Bad Man and his cohorts to end their space atrocities. While it can be interesting in the beginning, similar and repetitive missions together with lengthy, unnecessary conversations will eventually tire you as you go along the goals.

Although the combats and walking through the areas are in 3D setting, these are not enough to make the game exciting more so because these combats are too short to thrill the player. Its poor D pad controls makes this game even more difficult to play leaving you unsatisfied and frustrated in the end.

Although Spectrobes has its share of faults, there are also interesting points about this game that will keep you playing on. For one, you can use the DSÂ’s stylus to dig out fossils and minerals that you can use to increase the level of your collected critters. You can also find several items that you can use to unlock rewards and exciting goodies to feed your monsters. Although the menus may be difficult to manage, you can use them to dress Rallen in order to increase his energy and strength. You can also find in the menu the various weapons that he can use to fight his enemies such as laser gun, fists and swords.

However, if you lose a basic combat, you will be routed back to the start of the map which makes this game frustrating and annoying to the player. Going back to the start of the map means taking another 10-minute walk from the start of the map to the scene of the battle where the player lost. One good thing, there are minigames along the way and a chance to search and dig the area to provide the player some sort of distraction while repeating the process he have previously gone through.

You may be right in thinking that this game is not worth your time but one of the reasons why Spectrobes BTP is continually patronized is due to its Disney D Gamer features that allow you to open cool gadgets and outfits that you can use on your D Gamer avatar when you interact with your Disney community online.
