The game lets you pick from among forty-four different super-cars. These are a mix of the fastest cars in the world, and are mostly dominated by Ferraris. That is because the original game last year was Ferrari-exclusive, so it’s nice to see that different companies were allowed to bring their super-cars in to this year’s version. There isn’t a ton of variety, however, since only Mercedes-Benz contributes more than one car from their line-up to the game.

One of the most important things in a racing game is realistic physics, and this game certainly delivers in that regard. The physics in SuperCar Challenge are different depending on which car you’re driving. Heavier cars feel heavier, and lighter cars are obviously lighter on the track. While the gameplay physics are accurate, the physics of collisions has been made much less realistic, as you can severely damage your car and end up with only minor cosmetic damage. Some game modes even allow you to be disqualified for taking too much damage, which appears to be barely any at all.

One thing that’s going to do damage to your desire to play the game is the ridiculously difficult AI. While you might pick up a few methods that will work to get you into position to fight for first, generally the AI is a much better driver than you, even with all the available driving assistance, and the AI difficulty turned down as far as it will go. That level of difficulty isn’t necessary in a game like this, and it’s unfortunate that the designers didn’t decide to allow the difficulty levels to actually scale between impossible to lose, and impossible to beat instead of just being impossible to beat.

One somewhat annoying thing about playing was that no matter which of the five modes you select to play, Challenge, Quick Race, Time Trial, SuperCar Tournament, or Arcade, you’ll be venturing around the globe unlocking races by performing well in the races you have available. The number of points that are required to unlock the next race finds you replaying the same races over and over again. This method of forcing you to replay races extends the game, but at the cost of being repetitive and boring.

While SuperCar Challenge has aspects that make it unique among racing games, these aspects don’t allow for the easiest experience in driving your super-car. This game is fun, and realistic, but expect that the challenge is going to be a significant issue that will need to be overcome for you to gain the full enjoyment of the game.
